Currently there are 3 major threats that the Emperor Bird of Paradise encounters
- Habitat Destruction
- Climate Change
- High Demands in Fashion
Habitat Destruction:
Throughout the years, habitat destruction has been a main factor of endangered species worldwide. Due to the drastic growth of the human population as well as economic development, there has been an increase in both commercial logging as well as agriculture. As a result, there will be of the habitat destruction by deforestation will increase in the future and have an outcome of extinction.
Climate Change:
Emperor Bird of Paradise are located in New Guinea which experience frequent change in weather patterns. Some days they undergo dry seasons when during the day will be dry and receive a plethora of sunshine. However, at times there are extremely cold nights. Climate change can effect birds worldwide in a vast majority of ways. It has been proven by scientist that if global warming exceeds 2 º C above pre-industrial levels, extinction rates could be as high as 38% in Europe as well as 72% in Northeastern Australia.
High Demands in Fashion:
Fashion can be described as a girl's best friend, it has always had a massive impact on the society. During the first two decades of the 20th century, hats decorated with bird feathers, wings and entire bodies, were fashionable among women. Due to the luscious texture and beauty, the birds of paradise brilliant plumes were most desirable. Between the years of 1905-1920, internationally birds of paradise skin were being exported annually, approx. 30,000 - 80,000. As a result of the high demands, the birds of paradise had a decrease in population.
