Paradisaea Guilielmi is also known as Emperor of Germany's Bird of Paradise, a yellow and brown bird with a reddish-brown iris, bluish-grey bill and purplish-brown legs.
There are 43 bird of paradise species, all grouped in the same family. Of these species, 37 can be found in New Guinea. Not until 1939, the Ribbon Tailed Bird of Paradise, located in Central New Guinea was discovered.
At a point in time, for their external feathers Birds of Paradise were hunted. Due to the remarkable decrease in population in 1924, hunting these birds was illegal. Today, loss of habitat is a major threat to many species, particularly those with restricted ranges.
